At age 12 I embarked on what would turn out to be a lifelong obsession, superhero comics. One of the first writers whose work I loved was Mark Gruenwald. It turns out Mark was also a big part of what made Marvel special in the 80s and early 90s, as he rose through the editorial ranks while also writing Captain America, Quasar, Squadron Supreme, DP7, and the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe. Around 2021 I decided to do a deep dive on Mark's life and work, and the result is the first book-length biography of a restless creative spirit who left an outsized impact in the relatively short time he had on Earth.
